Book Synopsis:

The Prey
He glanced down at his hands fighting the urge to be sick. He couldn’t remember ever seeing so much blood in one place; the sight of it taking his paranoia to another level. Anxiously, he looked about him trying to confirm that he was not being watched, although he knew they had not been followed. The blood made him jittery as if it could talk; as if it alone cried out for help.
Peering up at the setting sun he knew he now had to work quickly. Most people used the darkness to cover their less than honorable deeds, but he could not afford to allow the darkness to catch him. That was when they came out.
Vultures circled above him, obviously attracted by the smell of her dead body. It seemed as though their numbers grew each time he glanced up. The sight of their enormous wingspan added to his uneasiness.
He closed his eyes taking slow deep breathes before finishing the task at hand; there was no place for nausea; he was running out of time. Grabbing her beneath the arms, he dragged what remained of her upper body a few feet away from where her severed legs lay. Next, he spread the broken pieces of her lower body around as well. He had to make it appear as though she had been mauled by them, just as he planned.
As he turned and walked away, he was surprised by the feeling of relief that suddenly came over him; relief that she was gone; relief that she could no longer bring harm. He paused momentarily glancing back at her face, her eyes were still open and even in death she seemed to be watching him. Shaking his head to remove the panic that attempted to rise within his belly, he reminded himself once again that it was finally over.
There were no feelings of remorse only of peace; something he had not felt for some time. You see today things changed for him. Today, he regained control over the life that she stole from him. The woman who stalked and caused his life to be a living hell was no longer a threat. He had turned the tables and beat her at her own game; catching her off guard when she least expected it, and snuffing out her life.
He proved to her that he meant what he said when he informed her that some day he would end her madness. There had been warnings as he begged her to leave things be. He tried to explain that there was no love and there never would be any love, and her tactics were only making matters worse. But, she refused to listen and instead began to cause physical harm.
That was when his will to protect took control, and a carnal side of him he never knew existed consumed him. Just as he promised he ended her reign of terror. A rustling in the brush pulled him back to reality and he stepped up his pace reaching the jeep, as he heard the first approaching sounds of the alpha lioness.
He quickly removed his elbow length rubber gloves, coveralls and shoe covers and placed them in the plastic bag that had held her body, before hopping into the jeep. Locking the door and wiping his hands even though they were clean, he signaled to his partner who started the engine. As they slowly drove off a smile traced his lips and a sense of power filled his heart. You see today the hunter became The Prey.

Welcome to The Authors’ Corner. This week’s featured author is Carla Youngblood.

Carla pic2013

Carla D. Youngblood is a life strategist, speaker, and author of three books. She is an expert at teaching women how to bring order and structure to their lives and build a life in preparation to meet life’s challenges. As a coach she works with women leaders in business and ministry, who need a place where they can share openly, without fear of retribution. As a preacher’s daughter she knows first-hand the necessity for leaders to honestly be able to share their stories. Carla believes that when women are able to care for themselves they are better able to care of others; it is a philosophy she practices daily.

Emotions COVER

Book Excerpt

Emotions of the Mind
Fragile minds exist because we struggle with trying to tell the mind what it already knows. The renewed mind is one that is accepting of the finished work of Christ. The fragility of our minds is necessary to push us to easily embracing the truth of our minds. Part of my own journey to this place of renewal, was being able to keep the process free of struggle. The work was to not give in to my thoughts that were contrary to what was already true about me.
Every day I was tested with thoughts which tried to persuade me to think differently. It meant that when the contrary thoughts came I had to search for another thought to think instead. I spent a lot of time reading Philippians 4:8. I had to allow my thoughts to go to my divine nature’s way of thinking and being. The work was for me to decide to come to a place called rest. We will talk more about this in another chapter.
A wondering mind will think about anything, it is subject to those 60,000 thoughts. I believe we are all just one thought away from victory or defeat depending on what you choose to think. If you want to renew your mind, the thought process must become intentional. You cannot afford to allow the mind to drift into places unguarded. The mind is so powerful, it will create whatever it wants.

The Authors’ Corner

Welcome to The Authors’ Corner.

Take a look at my review for title Breathe Again.

Breathe Again by Adrienne Thompson shows us the power of forgiveness. The protagonist, Maria spends many years as a dutiful daughter until she is rescued. But even after finding love for herself, she can’t fully receive until she lets go of past hurts and forgives. I so enjoyed Breathe Again and found Maria’s character to be relatable. Adrienne provides life lessons in this book worth learning and relearning. I highly recommend, Breathe Again.

The Authors’ Corner

Welcome to The Authors’ Corner. This week’s featured author is Karl Anthony Francis.

KING

Karl Anthony Francis who writes under the pseudonym Anthony Pathfinder was born in Kingston, Jamaica and moved to the United States as a child. Like most young boys in the inner-city, Anthony soon became fast friends with several of the neighborhood tough guys. Not one to let his adolescents mishaps dictate how he would spend the rest of his life; he embarked on a path that would forever change his life. He attended CUNY Queens College where he double majored in African Studies/Political Science and minored in Sociology; obtaining his bachelor’s degree. Meeting John Henrik Clarke, Cornell West, Al Sharpton and Yolanda King at his former college, had a lasting impression on him.

Anthony is a firm believer in second chances, convinced that desire and determination overcomes any obstacles. His remarkable coming of age life story, coupled with his work as an ESL (English as a Second Language) instructor, and working in the homeless shelters in New York City, where he was exposed to a number of unfortunate situations; consequently were the backdrop for some of the stories which he would later write.

A self-published writer, he has written several novels, ranging from urban fiction to historical, suspense and romantic novels. He has never pandered to the expectations of the typical reader, but rather to their unpredictability and the simplicity of their human experiences. A voracious reader and lover of Anton Chekhov, Chinua Achebe, James Baldwin and Toni Morrison’s writings, Nina Simone’s music and Motown Soul, Anthony is insatiably curious about the complexities of our world.

Book Synopsis
Treasure chronicles the de jure racial segregation of the Jim Crow era in the south. It is a candid account of sisters raised in a family of freed blacks who for generations had passed for white. Forbidden to marry black men, Treasure, the eldest provides as much protection as she can in shielding her younger siblings from the constant exchange of ideas they are exposed to growing up. However, in doing so, she may have taken them to a darker place, where the family secrets are revealed and where few can be trusted.

The Authors’ Corner

Welcome to The Authors’ Corner. This week’s featured author is, Inge Saunders.

IMG_20170309_114328

Inge Saunders lives in the biggest small town in South Africa‒ Worcester. She fell in love with books when she started reading romance novels with her grandmother. Intrigued by the worlds books unlocked, it was inevitable she would take pen to paper. She holds an Honors degree in Community Development and Learning Support and loves to sink her teeth into the research part of a story.
When she’s not writing about that ‘inexplicable attraction’ she’s reading almost every sub-genre in romance out there, spending time with friends and family and taking hikes in her hometown’s National Karoo Park.
Inge’s been a member of ROSA (Romance writers’ Organization of South Africa) since 2012 and has two contemporary titles, Falling for Mr. Unexpected (2014) and Dance of Love (2015) published with Decadent Publishing, as well as her first Black Hills Wolves novella, The Wolf’s Choice (2017).

The Wolf's Choice_1800x2700

Book synopsis

“I’ll pledge my loyalty to you through a blood oath, if you’ll support my choice of mate.”
Drew sank into his chair. “What does Rebecca have to say? The last time I spoke to her, she didn’t mention you.”
Blaine smiled. He hadn’t earned himself any favors. “She doesn’t know yet.”

Thirteen years ago Rebecca Ferguson died, at least to everyone in the Black Hills territory. With a human mother and unable to shift into a wolf, Magnum Tao, the deranged alpha of the Tao Pack would’ve had both her and her father killed for deceiving him. Magnum didn’t allow humans to mate with members of his pack.
Now Magnum is the one who’s dead and Rebecca can return.
But coming back from the dead, building a new life after her divorce and opening a library in town isn’t the only obstacles Rebecca faces. Elijah, her father, doesn’t approve of her being in Los Lobos to the point where he forbids her to get involved with the pack, especially the males.
Their relationship has suffered because of her absence and she hopes to bridge the divide; confident that she doesn’t want a romantic entanglement with anyone human or wolf, anyway.

In walks sexy private detective Blaine Walker.

Thirteen years ago Blaine stumbled on his mate at the local Swimming Hole. The next day, she was dead. Once he learns Rebecca is alive and living in Los Lobos, he decides it’s time to give up his career in Brooklyn and return to Black Hills. But he knows it won’t be easy to claim her since Elijah’s unnaturally overprotective. The only way Elijah will back off is to challenge him.

A challenge that will end in one of their deaths.

Rebecca can’t deny the old attraction she felt for Blaine is still there and even stronger now that they are grownup. She’s caught between the man fate has brought back to her and her father, whose affection she craved her whole life.
But there’s a life altering secret governing Elijah’s erratic behavior that can cost Rebecca everything she’s worked hard to build and everything she thought she could never have with a man or wolf.

Will Rebecca and Blaine beat the odds stacked against them?

Or will the choices they make ultimately lead them down a path both of them don’t want?

Excerpt

“I’ll pledge my loyalty to you through a blood oath, if you’ll support my choice of mate.”
Drew’s eyebrows went up. Ryker, true to form, didn’t blink an eye.
“Why would you need my support?”
“It’s Rebecca Ferguson.”
Ryker straightened, taking on a solid stance next to Drew. The discussion wasn’t a threat to the alpha in any way.
“Her father won’t allow it.”
“I know.”
“He’s alpha of his household.”
“I know.”
“Are you going to challenge him?”
“If I have to.”
“And you want me to sanction it.”

“Yes.”
Drew sank into his chair. “What does Rebecca have to say? The last time I spoke to her, she didn’t mention you.”
Blaine smiled. He hadn’t earned himself any favors. “She doesn’t know yet.”

“You expect me to support your claim without her being aware of it?”
“You expect me to swear a blood oath to you without assurance whether or not you’ll turn into your father.”
The menacing growl from Ryker vibrated through the room.
“You’re playing a dangerous game, Blaine.”
“All of us have done it for our mates.” He stared from one to the other.
News traveled through the wolf-grapevine. Drew’d had to gain his mate, Betty’s, trust when he returned to Los Lobos after she believed the lies his father told about him. Ryker had overstepped their laws by mating a human, something the old alpha would’ve killed him for. But Drew didn’t seem to have a problem with humans becoming part of the Tao pack.
“Elijah isn’t going to hand over Rebecca to you. He went to extreme measures to keep her safe.” Drew sat forward again. “Even with the new order, he’s still protective of her.”
Blaine didn’t budge. He knew what he wanted. And he rarely lost.
